Plastic Marquetry by Kim Markel

Working primarily with discarded or otherwise recycled plastics, the artist seeks to produce objects that kindle a child-like wonder and playfulness.

Working with recycled material is informed by both economics and environmental responsibility, but also comes from a desire to foster a childhood craft-like production wherein scraps and found materials make for low-key and relaxed media with which to create fantasy objects.

In this series of unique ‘Artifact Vessels’ the artist has re-recycled scraps from completed and failed projects, bonding and embedding them like marquetry into sheets that are then formed into vessels who’s walls evoke stained glass windows.
