Hand Woven Rattan
By Peeta Tinay, California
Peeta's work revolves around the exploration of structural patterns; it is as much concerned with engineering as aesthetics. Twining, lashing, and plaiting are the weaving techniques at the foundation of each piece. Her signature element is the 'Grid Base' that Peeta devised as the starting point of most of her work, usually clearly visible in a central area. All her work is made entirely from multiple diameters of round reed and cane derived from the vine rattan palm. The rattan is then hand dyed by the artist with cellulose fiber dyes and sealed with UV archival varnish and a buffed wax finish. Commissions are welcomed. |
